I believe in miracles

Ok, so we al know I have been stressing since Kaylie was 5 months old about how I was going to wean her from nursing. She loves to nurse. I often wonder what she would do if she couldn't nurse? She might go into some withdrawl syndrome. So the past week she's been nursing only about 3 times a day, which is awesome! I have been so pumped. One day Daniel said, "well maybe she's just gonna wean herself." I thought oh ya right, she'll be nursing til she's in kindergarten! Well.....she's weaned!!!!! I'm done nursing!! I didn't nurse her yesterday in the morning cuz we were running late and had to go to the dr with Marci, so I just fed her cereal and figured I'l nurse her there or in the car after we were done. She did fine all day and never really acted like she wanted it. So when it got to be 8pm last night, I told Daniel I was done, she hadn't nursed all day, she was telling me she's done. So it has now been 49 hours since she last nursed!! She is doing much better than I am....I have bene puking all day and I'm pretty sure my boobs are a size GG. The drying up part totally sucks. There is no way to describe how much it hurts. I even went to the doctor cuz I was afraid of getting mastitis, and he said the only treatment is to give it time. I read online that if you put cabbage leaves on your boobs, it'll help dry up. So as I type, I have cabbage leaves on my boobs, hoping for some releif! None the less, Kaylie is a big girl and no longer needs her mommy!!! It's kinda a bitter sweet situation....mostly sweet!

That's awesome! So sorry about the weaning part tho..that has got to suck. I kind of just lost my milk so I didn't have to deal with that pain. I wish I could give you some advice though. It's kind of an interesting feeling when you are done nursing. Good luck!

I'm glad it went so easy, that's the best. Cambri did really well with ending nursing. But I never dried up! So I went 9 months with still having milk and now I'm pregnant again! So it's still there. I was nick named the jersey cow, never thought it would be true! You have no idea how much I even wished for that pain. I did everything, bound my boobs, cut back water and food, ice packs, anything the doctor told me to do. Is there really a pill that will make you dry up? If there is, I'm totally using it this next time! I want regular sized boobs again! Let me know if the cabbage leaves help. I also heard about that, but since I couldn't use it, I never knew if it worked. Good luck, I hope you get feeling better soon. It's so liberating to be able to leave your baby with someone for some real "alone" time without having to worry about when you need to nurse her next! Yeah Ham!!

yay Amber! Cash kinda just weaned himself too. and i just started replacing nursing with real food. good job. nursing is the only way to go, but it's such a relief when you're done too.

there is a pill that should dry you up, they give it to moms that lose babies or that decide they won't be nursing. Go and ask your doctor for that.

Ha! Cabbage leaves, that's awesome. I hope they work! If not, at least you got to feel a little bit like a mermaid for a while. I'm so sorry that's so hard. I never got that wonderful opportunity to nurse. I never had milk come in, or dry up. I guess that's a small bright side, but doesn't really make up for it.

Yay, Congrats! That is so awesome to have her just wean herself. Brody did ok with it, I did it really slowly so my milk would slowly dry out but it didn't happen and I had lots of clogged milk ducts. I was scared it was going to give me mastitis so I had him nurse a few more times and then I didn't have any more problems luckily. I hope your pain goes away soon though it isn't fun!
